Loktak Lake, Floating Islands of Manipur, India

Hello Friends. Hope you all are doing well.

I was scrolling Google+ page and found an interesting post about floating Phumdis. Have you ever heard about it? I never, but it’s really very interesting to see numerous green circles are floating on water.

When I have seen the image of these floating islands I was wondering it reminds me the logo of Audi cars and Olympic logo. Ha Ha Ha, seriously it is like that.

The name of this amazing place is Loktak Lake situated in the moirang town in Manipur state (Switzerland of India) of India. Imphal is the capital of Manipur 45 kilometers away from Moirang.

In following image you can see large green circles of phumdis on the surface which cover most of the lake area.

Phumdis are floating mass of vegetation on the Loktak Lake creating drifting islands and islanders who live off the lake’s bounty in greater harmony with nature. These Phumdis of floating islands are made of tangled vegetation, organic rubbish, and mud.

At the southern zone of Loktak Lake, you will find the Keibul Lamjao National Park, known as the only floating park in the world. Here you can find varieties of birds and animals.

Here is the list of top eight leading tourist destinations in Manipur. Imphal, Ukhrul, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong and Churachandpur.
